Collaborating with architects, builders and client project managers for new homes, extensions, conversions and restoration projects. Our proprietary glazing systems cater to both conservation and modern architecture, delivered by our in-house team for comprehensive ‘end-to-end’ service and seamless project execution.

Although we are a predominantly a commercial specialist sub-contractor working on larger projects throughout the UK we are also able to quote for most domestic roof glazing applications.

We regularly work on small and large domestic roof glazing kitchen projects and would be pleased to quote for your work. Please read on for more information and guidance to find out if we can be of assistance on your project.

Architects and Design

Domestic roof glazing clients are usually required to employ the services of an architect to design their new home, extension or conversion project. Normally the architect’s services are retained throughout the building phase of the works which has obvious benefits for the smooth running of the project.

Builder and Main Contractor

A builder is usually appointed by the client to run the site on a full time basis and engage the services of all the different sub-contract trades as well as arranging the sequencing of the works. The builder should be responsible for CDM, welfare facilities for all site workers and the provision of safe access and scaffolding to enable each trade to carry out their respective part of the works in a safe manner. The majority of domestic projects we undertake are on this basis and in this respect it is the same procedure as the larger type projects we undertake.

Client as Project Manager

On smaller projects the client may wish to project manage the works themself, dispensing with the architect’s and builder’s services. If the client has competent management skills then this option can still work well and provide considerable cost savings to the overall build price. The client/project manager will need to have a full hands-on approach as well as having some building knowledge and must make themselves available during working hours to discuss any issues that arise. We would expect all necessary access and scaffolding equipment to be provided by the client to enable us to survey the structure (if this service is required) and for the installation of our roof glazing. We would be willing to discuss our access requirements with you at the early stages of your project.

As a specialist roof glazing sub-contractor we are unable to allow for providing the structural rails that support the glazing at head and bottom positions. These must be supplied by other trades and be capable of carrying the loadings which will be imposed on them. Many projects require lead flashings to help weather the glazing at the head and side positions. These items are also normally provided by other trades and must be in place before the roof glazing is installed.

If you are prepared to work to the above criteria and provide the items requested then we’d be pleased to work with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do we have a nationwide installation service?

Yes. Our directly employed installers carry out projects anywhere in the UK.

  • Do we offer an installation service as standard?

Yes. 95% of our turnover is achieved from supply and install projects. We do not use sub-contract labour which ensures that our work is installed to a high standard by our long serving trained staff. We are also pleased to quote for supply only contracts for installation by other glazing contractors or builders. On supply only contracts we offer 2 service options:

    1. Basic Supply Only Service:
      • We provide the metal sections without glazed infills.
      • No design drawings included.
      • No site surveys included.
    2. Comprehensive Supply Only Service:
      • Includes the metal sections with glazed infills.
      • Design drawings included
      • No site surveys included
      • Available for projects of 20m² and above for cost efficiency.
  • Do we carry out works on domestic projects?

Yes. A small selection of our projects are for domestic roof glazing clients, although we are usually employed directly by the clients’ builder or architect rather than by the client themselves.

  • What value of projects will you undertake?

There is no minimum size project for us. We are proud to have the capabilities to work on very small projects as well as multi-million pound projects anywhere the UK.

  • How do I obtain a quotation?

Please supply us with any design drawings and/or written specifications, bills of quantities, etc associated with the patent glazing. We will contact you immediately if we require additional information to enable us to provide you with our comprehensive quotation. Quotations are supplied with our suggested typical interface details showing how our proposed patent glazing interfaces with the supporting structure. See more detailed instructions.

  • Is there a minimum pitch to install patent glazing?

The minimum recommended pitch for patent glazing is 15 degrees although we do install at pitches as low as 5 degrees due to improved designs. Our new opening vents can now also be installed at pitches as low as 5 degrees as we have developed a welded corner connection using automated robotic technology in lieu of the industry standard seal and  crimp like design which can be susceptible to water ingress.

  • What is the maximum glazing bar spacing allowable?

Typically patent glazing bars are spaced at approximately 600mm centres. We do not usually install at centres exceeding 1000mm as this pane width may require the use of expensive mechanical craneage to ensure a safe installation.

  • What is the period of guarantee supplied with our products?

All materials supplied and installed by us are given an ‘end to end’ 5 year guarantee, except for opening vent gearing products which are supplied with the manufacturer’s 12 month warranty.

  • What polyester powder colours are available as standard?

There are literally dozens of colours available as standard. Please view our RAL colour chart.

“”We chose Standard Patent Glazing Co Ltd for our kitchen extension project based on their Rafterline patent glazing system, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. The system they installed not only floods our kitchen with natural daylight but also maintains thermal efficiency, which was crucial for us As homeowners, we felt confident in specifying Standard Patent Glazing Co Ltd because of their established reputation and commitment to quality. Knowing they do not employ subcontractors and take full responsibility from design through to installation and the guarantee period gave us peace of mind.”
