Established in 1855, the Grade II-listed Market Hall in Holyhead, Wales has long been a focal point in the community. Standard Patent Glazing Co Ltd was entrusted with delivering the roof patent glazing package following specifications from Purcell, the Architect, who chose our Heritage glazing system.
Regeneration and Design Intent
The Holyhead Market roof glazing project aimed to revitalise the former market hall into a new community and learning centre, utilising conservation techniques to preserve its heritage while enhancing functionality for modern use.
Awards and Recognition
Since its reopening, the project has garnered several accolades including the RICS Social Impact Award 2020 for Heritage in Wales, being a Civic Trust Award 2021 regional finalist, and winning the AJ100 Community Impact Award 2021.
Glazing Specifications
We replaced 125m² of Heritage roof patent glazing featuring heat-soaked, self-cleaning, solar-controlled double-glazed units. This choice provided optimal solar control and ensured low maintenance solutions, meeting both aesthetic and functional requirements.
Natural Ventilation Integration
To enhance indoor air quality and comfort, we incorporated 57 opening vents into the glazing system. These vents were seamlessly integrated into the building management system (BMS), ensuring efficient and controlled ventilation for the new community and learning centre.
