Replacement Roof Glazing at Goldsmiths University, London
Project Overview
Our assignment at Goldsmiths University involved replacing the roof glazing of the Great Hall with a focus on enhancing daylighting, providing solar control, ensuring a non-fragile glazing system, and integrating natural ventilation solutions.
Design and Specifications
We installed over 300m² of our Traditional patent glazing system, featuring green body tinted 8.8mm laminated safety glass. This selection not only met aesthetic requirements but also fulfilled the need for solar control and compliance with CWCT TN 66 & 67 standards for non-fragile roof glazing assemblies.
Natural Ventilation Integration
To enhance indoor air quality and occupant comfort, we incorporated 36 opening vents into the glazing system. These vents were seamlessly integrated into the building management system (BMS), ensuring efficient and controlled ventilation for the Great Hall.
Challenges and Solutions
The project presented challenges due to the live operational status of the building, which required us to survey the existing glazing in situ without accessing the underlying supporting structure. Despite these constraints, our expert surveyors meticulously obtained accurate dimensions, facilitating the timely installation of the new glazing system within a demanding schedule.
Outcome
The replacement glazing system was successfully installed, meeting all project objectives for daylighting, solar control, safety, and ventilation. Our commitment to quality and adherence to timelines ensured minimal disruption to university operations while enhancing the functionality and aesthetics of the Great Hall.
This case study underscores our capability in delivering tailored solutions for complex glazing projects, exemplifying our expertise in design, manufacture, and installation to meet stringent performance criteria and client expectations at Goldsmiths University.
