Canopy Glazing Revival at Folkestone Harbour

Breathing New Life into Folkestone’s Historic Harbour

Folkestone’s historical harbour area has been the heart of a vibrant redevelopment scheme, and our role in this transformation was to rejuvenate the low-level canopy glazing, covering a substantial 1,500m². This renewal has breathed new life into Folkestone’s cherished harbour, creating a circular economy that thrives throughout the year.

A New Dawn for Folkestone

The glazed canopies gracefully adorn the former railway station site, a strategic part of the redevelopment plan. This site’s regeneration involves the creation of shop units, marking a significant step in reinvigorating this iconic location.

Preservation Meets Modernity

Our approach involved the utilisation of the Traditional Cap type glazing system. This system seamlessly incorporated 8.8mm class A clear laminated safety glass, delivering a non-fragile assembly that adhered to the exacting standards set forth in CWCT TN66 & TN67.

Complexity in Design: The Beauty of Precision

The glazed canopies wind their way around the old platforms, presenting an additional layer of complexity to the project. Many of the glass panes were uniquely shaped, emphasising the importance of precision at both the survey and design stages. This intricacy was masterfully navigated.

Result: A Harbour Reimagined

The Folkestone Harbour canopy glazing has contributed to a remarkable transformation, breathing new life into the historic area. The revitalised canopies have not only added to the aesthetic charm of the harbour but have also injected economic vitality, creating a thriving, year-round destination for the community.

This case study underscores our dedication to blending preservation with modernity, ensuring that historic sites like Folkestone Harbour can continue to enchant and serve as vibrant, dynamic spaces for generations to come.
