Technical Estimator / Trainee Technical Estimator
Dewsbury
The position involves the estimating of our bespoke aluminium and steel framed patent glazing systems on commercial and domestic projects that range in value from £1K to £2m. You should have experience with pricing aluminium glazing systems and be very competent with the use of computers and software.
Below are a number of credentials the Estimator should possess:
- Extremely high attention to detail and accurate checking of your own work.
- Understanding of Tendering Documents and the Tendering process.
- Able to understand and interpret Architectural Drawings and material specifications.
- Highly motivated to learn quickly and absorb information.
- Excellent written, organisational and communication skills
- Professional manner on the telephone and in person
- Ability to deal on a professional level with Principal Contractors, Architects and Domestic Clients
- Work well under pressure
- Ability to work as part of a team and work alone as and when required
- The ability to prioritise your workload.
- Strong work ethic.
- Highly competent in Microsoft Excel (Visual Basic/Macro writing skills preferred)
- Knowledge of CAD software an advantage.
Key responsibilities
Below are a number of duties required for the role:
- Reviewing tender documents, drawings and specifications sent to us by Principal Contractors or Architects and costing these items using bespoke software.
- Reading and understanding specifications.
- Obtaining prices from suppliers for items such as glass, powder coating, automatic gear, smoke vents.
- Liaising with Principal Contractors
- Liaising with other members of staff internally
- Ensuring project deadlines are met
- Submitting final quotations and following up with calls to contractors
- Attending meetings internally and externally when required.
The Estimator should possess the following qualifications and experience.
- Educated to A level standard or higher
- English Language and Maths qualifications essential
- Construction qualifications preferred.
- Estimating experience in architectural aluminium/glazing industry preferred.
- Technical knowledge of glazing systems, glass types and Building Regulations.
- Full clean UK driving license
- CSCS Card (preferred)
